We've previously worked on Apple's iPod, IBM's ViaVoice, and Honda's voice controlled navigational systems, amongst many other things. We also helped create the world's first ever speech recognition enabled web browser.
The Yap Bros got to thinking that texting while driving was dangerous as heck. They were astonished to learn that over 66% of teens do that nowadays, so they decided to do something about it! After the obvious social utility, they found out that the platform was immediately useful for many things beyond messaging, including accessing web services, transcribing your voicemails, converting audio from videos into text, the sky's the limit!
Everyone with a cellphone...from college kids and teens, to mobile professionals and soccer moms. So the short answer is, half the human race. Bottomline, if you text a lot, you can send them faster now, and it's much safer as well! If you don't text, here's your solution to doing so.
Glad you asked, quite a few things actually! You can Yap into your phone and send text messages, interact with Facebook, perform internet searches, check the latest news, find what time a movie's playing, read restaurant reviews, make reservations at that sushi joint that's always packed, find YouTube videos, find out what's on eBay, see if the Harry Potter book's available on Amazon, check flight status on Orbitz, find the nearest Starbucks, find out when Einstein was born on Wikipedia, and Twitter your life away. This is just to start, but we are adding more web services on a daily basis. Is there something you want that you don't see yet, just drop us a note and we'll put it in our honey do list!
Magic. :-) Oops...you were expecting a more revealing answer? ;-) Ok, it starts by capturing what you say into a small application on your mobile phone. That's uploaded to our high powered cluster that'll translate anything you say into text. The text appears on your phone's screen a second later and then you do what you want to it.
Spell check. A teen that had early access found that Yap was faster than opening up a web browser, calling up dictionary.com, and trying to spell a word he didn't know how to spell in the first place. We won the bake off because he pressed a button, said "schizophrenic," and the word magically appeared on his phone a second later!
We drive much higher data and texting usage, by at least an order of magnitude. Do you think that'd help the sale of bundles any? Did you know that in South Korea teens send over 60 SMS a day? That's almost 1,800 a month! In addition, the state of Washington just outlawed texting while driving...we make it much safer for your users to keep at it. Independent of that, we finally make all that other content to want to drive to your endpoints consumable.
It finally makes messaging and web services usable on your smallest devices. It'll help sales of your 3G phones since everything we do is server-based, and Yap doesn't need to be integrated in the factory. With over 1 billion phones being sold per year, how will you set yourself apart?
We'll tell you soon...something about vastly increasing clicks, impressions, and engaging with end users in realtime, blah blah blah. Nothing you'll care about too much. Or is it? ;-)
